Renal Biopsy Case History
February, 1995

Clinical Summary

A 45 year old male presented with a three week history of malaise, headache, decreased appetite and lower extremity swelling. Physical examination revealed 2+ lower extremity edema and a blood pressure of 150/100 mm Hg. There was no rash, pyoderma, arthritis or evidence for pharyngitis. Laboratory data included 2+ hematuria with no RBC casts, 2+ proteinuria with 1.0 g/24 hours, serum creatinine 5.8 mg/dl, BUN 64 mg/dl, serum albumin 4.0 g/dl, serum cholesterol 224 mg/dl, normal C3 (131), normal C4 (22), ASO titer 30, negative ANA, unremarkable urine and serum protein electrophoresis, and hematocrit 25%. The serum creatinine rose quickly and the patient was thought to have some form of rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis.
