Slide #7: High magnification electron micrograph showing amyloid on the right and the cytoskeleton of a visceral epithelial cell on the left. As is often the case with foot process effacement, there is a zone of dense actin condensation within the cytoplasm adjacent to the glomerulus. The more discrete cytoskeleton fibrils to the left are a useful internal point of reference for the size of abnormal fibrils because they are about the same diameter as amyloid fibrils but are thinner than the fibrils of fibrillary glomerulonephritis and immunotactoid glomerulopathy.
